Today I  am going to pick up Metric’s latest album which I’ve already listened too it a bunch times and is fantastic – time for art to support art! I have to say that the lead singer, Emily Haines, is quite possibly my favorite female singer ever. She can be wonderfully high without ever being shrill.

Funny thing is…this band, her voice, and the music always make me think of the wonderful lady that introduced me to the band (one of the most amazing people I have ever met…and the longer I know her, the more I want too – a feeling I doubt is shared).

Does that happen to anyone else? It’s funny how a person can reside in your mind and pop up into your thoughts at the most strange, almost seemingly inconsequential times. This happens to me often especially when I listen to music.

I can’t figure out what it means. I almost wonder if I am buying the album not so much to listen to the music but to just think of her…very strange. Such is life, no? Help, I’n Alive…is exactly how am I feeling…it is so hard to be soft and tender:

Watching the  high scoring affair between the Ottawa Senators and the Pittsburgh Penguins last night got me thinking about some of my favorite hockey memories. Goalies can really make or break a playoff series.

The thing that always struck me as being funniest was when goaltenders got angry or fought – mostly because they are so armored up – its like watching people fight in those carnival sumo suits…if you just switched the soundtrack to Benny Hill…hilarity would ensue. Above is a homage to some “old time” goalie hockey fights.

I also remember watching the Leafs game in which Felix Potvin fought Ron Hextall and the one where Curtis Joesph fell into the referee…damn, I am a part of Leafs Nation.

I got the chance to watch this band the last time I went to States with one of my good buddies…and while the US border guards tried to make us miss the show and kick us out of the country for being hapless Canadian punks – the Americans at the venue and around Buffalo were super nice.

I love this song. Eventually – I’ll make make grand escape… in convertible with a beautiful Missus. Both of which are hopefully in my horizon.

It’s been a while since I’ve headed into a record store and the one day I do – turned out to be the launch of the latest Alkaline Trio album. I really dig the way these guys they can package sweetness into a song that seems revel in the dark.

Like a song about realizing who you really love:

“you hit me just like heroin/ i feel you coursing through my veins/ i once tried to kick this addiction / i swear ill never kick again / won’t ever kick again, no”

&

“well those others were like methadone / i took to get me through the day / now i’m trying to find my way back home / staying clean along the way /hold out for the real thing, yeah

Silly? Perhaps but I still believe it more than any other pop tune I’ve heard it a while.
